Putnam County, FL – An 18-year-old charged in the March death of a 57-year-old Interlachen man has been transferred from Volusia County to the Putnam County Jail, where he remains held without bond, according to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, Charles Bean III, 18, was recently returned to Putnam County after being charged with the first-degree premeditated murder of Timothy Wietzel, 57, whose death occurred in March.

Deputies initially responded on March 18, 2026, to a reported possible suicide at a residence in the 500 block of Sheila Avenue in Interlachen. Authorities said Bean called 911 and reported finding Wietzel dead inside the home.

Investigators said Bean and Wietzel had spent much of the day together before the victim’s death. During the investigation, detectives allege Bean made inconsistent statements regarding the timeline and circumstances surrounding the incident.

According to the sheriff’s office, an autopsy determined the location of the gunshot wound was not consistent with suicide, and the medical examiner concluded the victim had been shot by another person.

Detectives also said a March 25 search of Bean’s residence uncovered a bullet inside a shed that allegedly matched bullets recovered from the victim’s residence. Bean was initially arrested on separate charges, including violating juvenile probation by possessing ammunition and destroying evidence.

Authorities said a probable cause affidavit charging Bean with first-degree premeditated murder was submitted on May 1, and he was transferred from Volusia County to the Putnam County Jail on Friday, where he remains without bond.

The investigation remains ongoing.

As with all criminal cases, the charges are allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
