Washington, D.C. – Wind gusts reaching 30 mph by mid-afternoon Sunday are set to rattle the D.C. metro, with breezy conditions already building and expected to peak during peak travel hours.
According to the National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington office, sustained winds of 10 to 20 mph will strengthen through 3 p.m., with gusts up to 30 mph across urban corridors and bay-adjacent areas. High temperatures will hover between 54 and 63 degrees, but the persistent wind will make it feel cooler, especially along exposed roadways and bridges.
Across Maryland, Baltimore and surrounding counties will see similar gusts through early evening, with impacts likely on I-95, I-695, and the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, where crosswinds could affect high-profile vehicles. In Northern Virginia, drivers along I-66 and the Beltway may encounter sudden gusts during lane changes and overpasses.
By 6 p.m., winds remain elevated with gusts still near 30 mph, though cloud cover begins to increase. Temperatures gradually dip into the mid-50s. By 9 p.m., conditions cool further into the mid-40s to mid-50s, with winds easing slightly but still gusting up to 25 mph.
Residents should secure loose outdoor items, use caution when driving, and prepare for a cooler evening if heading out. Breezy conditions continue overnight, with calmer weather and a warming trend expected heading into early next week.
