Coshocton, Ohio – Water is already spilling into low-lying areas along the Muskingum River this Sunday morning, with levels high enough to threaten homes and roadways near Coshocton through Monday evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, the river reached 15.2 feet by 10 a.m. Sunday, exceeding the 15.0-foot flood stage and continuing minor flooding conditions. The river is expected to hold near that crest into the afternoon before slowly falling below flood stage by early Monday afternoon.
Floodwaters are impacting areas between the Tuscarawas and Walhonding Rivers and pushing into vulnerable spots along Route 16 south of Coshocton and County Route 1A to the north. These areas could see standing water near homes and road shoulders, creating hazardous travel conditions, especially after dark when visibility drops.
Drivers are urged to avoid barricaded roads and never attempt to cross flooded sections. Even shallow water can stall vehicles or hide road damage. Residents in flood-prone zones should monitor conditions closely and prepare for minor property impacts.
The warning remains in effect until Monday evening, with another update expected by 10 p.m. Sunday as river levels begin a gradual decline.
