Preliminary information indicates a 54-year-old man from Gurnee was allegedly crossing outside of a designated crosswalk when he was struck by a Honda CR-V driven by an 81-year-old woman from Beach Park. Police said the Honda allegedly left the scene but was later located at the driverโs residence.
Investigators said the pedestrian remained in the roadway and was subsequently struck a second time, allegedly by a Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck driven by a 26-year-old woman from Great Lakes. The Chevrolet remained at the scene but was later involved in a secondary crash after it was allegedly struck by a Kia driven by a 35-year-old woman from North Chicago.
Authorities said the drivers of the Chevrolet and Kia remained on scene and are cooperating with the ongoing investigation. The driver of the Honda was not injured and is also cooperating, according to police.
The pedestrian sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center for treatment. The Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team responded to assist with the investigation.
