La Fontaine, IN – A confirmed tornado with winds up to 75 mph tore through part of Wabash County Thursday evening, briefly damaging homes and farm structures just southeast of La Fontaine.
According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, the EF-0 tornado touched down between 7:05 and 7:06 p.m. EDT along East 1100 South. The storm carved a narrow path of about 0.27 miles long and 30 yards wide before lifting, making it a short-lived but impactful event.
Damage surveys found part of a home’s roof was removed and thrown to the northeast, while a nearby outbuilding was lifted and rolled. Debris, including corn stalks, was scattered across fields and into neighboring properties. Despite the damage, no injuries or fatalities were reported.
This marks the second confirmed tornado from the March 26 severe weather outbreak in northern Indiana, following another EF-0 near Banquo in Huntington County.
Residents are urged to review severe weather safety plans and ensure alerts are enabled, as additional spring storm systems could bring renewed risks in the coming weeks.
