Hastings, NE – A dramatic temperature swing is set to impact Nebraska within the next 48 hours, with near-90 degree heat quickly giving way to much cooler air and increasing rain chances.

According to the National Weather Service in Hastings, highs will climb into the upper 70s and 80s today, then peak between 82 and 90 degrees Monday across south central Nebraska, including Hastings, Kearney, and Grand Island. This early warmth will be short-lived as a cold front moves in Tuesday.

Temperatures will fall sharply into the 50s and 60s Tuesday, with isolated showers developing by afternoon. The better chance for rain arrives Wednesday and Wednesday night, when precipitation chances increase to 50% to 60% and highs drop into the upper 40s.

Drivers along U.S. 281, I-80, and Highway 6 should prepare for rapidly changing conditions, including gusty winds ahead of the front and wet roads during midweek rainfall.

Residents should take advantage of the warm start to the week but prepare for a significant cooldown. Additional updates are likely as rain chances and timing become clearer.
