Little Rock, AR – A major pattern shift is about to bring multiple rounds of rain and thunderstorms to Arkansas, with flooding concerns increasing by midweek.
According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, rain chances will ramp up starting Wednesday, with several waves of storms continuing through Sunday. Total rainfall of 2 to 3 inches is expected statewide, with some areas facing a 30% to 45% chance of exceeding 3 inches, especially across western and northern Arkansas.
Cities including Little Rock, Conway, Fort Smith, and Fayetteville could see repeated rounds of heavy rain. Travel along I-40, I-30, and I-49 may be impacted by water-covered roads, reduced visibility, and ponding during heavier downpours.
Forecasters note that timing remains uncertain, but at least two storm systems are expected—one midweek and another heading into the weekend. Some storms could become strong, bringing gusty winds and frequent lightning.
Residents should prepare for prolonged wet conditions, avoid driving through flooded roadways, and monitor updates as rainfall totals and storm threats become clearer. Additional advisories are likely as the system develops.
