Grand Forks, ND – Roads across northeast North Dakota could turn slick within hours after midnight as a wintry mix develops, creating hazardous travel conditions for the Monday morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, dry and partly sunny conditions will hold through today with highs ranging from the 40s north to low 60s south. After midnight, a system moving through southern Canada will bring light snow and freezing rain, mainly along and north of Highway 2, including Grand Forks, Devils Lake, and surrounding communities.

The greatest concern is early Monday morning, when temperatures near or below freezing could allow a thin glaze of ice to form on untreated roads. Even light freezing rain can create dangerous conditions on bridges and rural highways, especially along U.S. 2 and nearby routes.

Areas south of Highway 2 may stay mostly dry overnight, but light rain or snow could spread more broadly into Monday night and early Tuesday.

Residents should limit early morning travel if possible, allow extra time, and check road conditions before heading out. Additional advisories may be issued as the system develops and impacts become clearer.
