Denver, CO – Fires could spread within minutes across the Front Range by late Monday morning as strong winds and extremely dry air align, prompting a Fire Weather Watch across key population corridors.
According to the National Weather Service in Denver/Boulder, critical fire weather conditions are expected from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday. West winds will gust up to 35 mph while relative humidity drops as low as 10 percent, creating an environment where any spark could lead to rapid fire growth.
The highest risk stretches from the foothills through the I-25 corridor, including Denver, Boulder, Fort Collins, and extending onto the northeast plains. Open areas and grasslands along major routes like I-25 and U.S. 36 are especially vulnerable, where fires can spread quickly and threaten nearby structures.
Residents should avoid outdoor burning, delay use of equipment that could create sparks, and never park vehicles on dry grass. Properly disposing of cigarettes is critical under these conditions.
The fire threat will ease after sunset Monday, but additional alerts or upgrades to warnings are possible if conditions intensify during the day.
