Minneapolis, MN – A sharp temperature swing is underway across Minnesota, with near-80 degree warmth in southern areas Monday giving way to rain and a rapid cooldown by Tuesday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in the Twin Cities, skies will clear today with highs ranging from the mid-60s to mid-70s statewide. Monday brings the warmest conditions, especially south of the metro, where temperatures could reach 79 degrees, while northern areas remain cooler as a front begins to move in.

That front will trigger scattered showers and possibly a thunderstorm early Tuesday, especially during the morning hours. The system will also bring a noticeable drop in temperatures, with highs falling into the low 40s to low 50s across the region, including Minneapolis and St. Paul.

Drivers along I-35 and I-94 should prepare for wet roads and reduced visibility during the Tuesday morning commute. Residents are encouraged to plan for changing conditions and dress in layers as temperatures fall quickly.

Cooler air holds through midweek with partly sunny skies returning Wednesday. Additional updates may follow as Tuesday’s rain chances develop.
