Pennsylvania – Bright sunshine is quickly warming neighborhoods across western Pennsylvania, and the hottest stretch of the week is already taking shape. Comfortable morning temperatures won’t last long as summer heat strengthens through midweek, sending afternoon readings into the middle 90s and increasing heat stress across the Pittsburgh region.

According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, dry weather dominates the area through Thursday as high pressure remains in control. Today’s high reaches 89 degrees, followed by 94 degrees Tuesday before temperatures peak near 96 degrees Wednesday. Thursday remains hot with another afternoon high around 93 degrees, extending the prolonged stretch of above-normal temperatures.

The warming trend will be noticeable each afternoon as pavement, bridges and vehicles heat quickly under nearly cloud-free skies. Plan outdoor work, youth sports and yard projects early in the day whenever possible. Stay hydrated, wear lightweight clothing and check on neighbors who may not have reliable air conditioning.

Drivers traveling along Interstate 376, Interstate 79, Interstate 279, Interstate 70 and the Pennsylvania Turnpike should prepare for hot afternoon travel conditions. Keep water inside your vehicle and never leave children or pets unattended in parked cars, where interior temperatures can become dangerous within minutes.

While widespread severe weather remains focused across portions of the Plains and Midwest, western Pennsylvania stays under a quieter pattern through the workweek. The next meaningful chance for showers and thunderstorms does not arrive until Friday night, with a 30 percent chance of rain increasing to 60 percent Saturday as a weather system approaches. A few stronger thunderstorms cannot be ruled out next weekend, but confidence in any severe threat remains low at this time.
