South Carolina – Waves are already crashing hard along the Charleston shoreline this morning, with powerful surf pushing water higher up the beach and creating dangerous conditions near the water’s edge. The breeze carries a steady roar from the Atlantic.
According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, a High Surf Advisory remains in effect through late morning, with breaking waves reaching 5 to 6 feet. These waves can knock swimmers off balance and cause localized beach erosion.
Across Folly Beach, Isle of Palms, and Sullivan’s Island, conditions remain hazardous for swimming. Lifeguards urge visitors to stay out of the water, especially inexperienced swimmers. Even standing near the shoreline can be risky as waves surge farther inland.
At the same time inland, a separate concern is building. Dry air and gusty winds are creating elevated fire danger across the Charleston metro and surrounding counties. Outdoor burning is discouraged, and any sparks could spread quickly in dry grass.
Through the afternoon, skies turn mostly sunny with highs near 66°F. Winds remain breezy, especially along coastal roads like Highway 17, where drivers may feel crosswinds.
The pattern shifts into early week. Monday brings warmer conditions near 72°F with calmer weather. By Tuesday, highs reach 74°F under mostly sunny skies.
By Wednesday, a more unsettled pattern develops. A slight chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms arrives after 2 p.m., with highs near 76°F. Conditions may turn briefly stormy before clearing later.
