Glacier National Park, Montana – Travel over Marias Pass could become hazardous within hours Sunday night as snow and wind rapidly reduce visibility ahead of the Monday morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Missoula and Great Falls, a Winter Weather Advisory begins at 8 p.m. Sunday and runs until 10 a.m. Monday across the Glacier region, including West Glacier, East Glacier Park, and Marias Pass. Snow totals will range from 2 to 6 inches above 4,000 feet on the west side, while the east side could see 4 to 8 inches near the pass and up to 15 inches across the highest peaks. Wind gusts will reach 50 mph, with isolated gusts as high as 65 mph.

US-2 over Marias Pass is expected to see the most significant impacts, where blowing snow may drop visibility below a half mile at times. Areas like Babb, St. Mary, and Logan Pass could also see rapid accumulations overnight, making early Monday travel difficult.

Drivers should delay non-essential travel, reduce speed, and check Montana 511 for real-time road conditions. Gusty winds may also create localized drifting, especially in exposed areas.

Conditions improve gradually after 10 a.m. Monday, but additional advisories could follow if another system develops early next week.
