Pendleton, Oregon – Snow is set to return to the Cascade passes within the next 72 hours, with travel impacts likely beginning by Wednesday morning as accumulation builds quickly at higher elevations.
According to the National Weather Service in Pendleton, there is high confidence, greater than 75 percent, that mountain passes will see accumulating snow from early Wednesday morning through early Friday morning. Oregon Cascade passes carry a 70 to 90 percent chance of receiving at least 6 inches of snow, while Washington passes, including Snoqualmie, have a lower 30 to 40 percent chance of reaching that threshold.
Drivers along key routes such as Santiam Pass, Willamette Pass, and Government Camp on US-26 should prepare for snow-covered roads, reduced visibility, and periods of chain requirements. Even lighter totals could still create slick conditions during peak travel times.
In central Oregon, including Bend and Redmond, snowfall confidence remains lower, though light accumulation is still possible depending on how quickly snow levels drop Wednesday night.
Travelers are urged to check TripCheck and WSDOT updates before departure, carry winter gear, and allow extra time through mountain corridors.
Snow impacts are expected to persist through early Friday morning, with additional advisories likely as snowfall totals and snow levels become clearer.
