Alamosa, Colorado – Warmer air is already building across southern Colorado, and temperatures are set to climb into the 60s within days, raising early-season fire concerns and accelerating snowmelt across the San Luis Valley.

According to the National Weather Service and Climate Prediction Center, above-normal temperatures will dominate Colorado through at least April 7, with the strongest warming focused across south-central and southeastern parts of the state. Precipitation chances remain less certain, with equal odds of below or near-normal moisture limiting widespread relief.

In Alamosa, average highs climb from 57 degrees at the start of April to near 64 degrees by the end of the month, while overnight lows rise from the low 20s into the upper 20s. Colorado Springs and Pueblo follow a similar trend, though both cities remain cooler overall with average highs in the mid to upper 40s early in the month.

Drivers along US-160 and I-25 should watch for rapidly changing conditions as daytime thawing and overnight refreezing create slick patches. Dry ground combined with warming temperatures may also elevate wildfire risk, especially during windy afternoons.

This warming pattern is expected to hold through early next week, with additional updates likely as precipitation chances become clearer.
