Tallahassee, Florida – Fires could spread out of control within minutes across the Florida Panhandle and surrounding states as strong winds and dry air peak through the early evening hours Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, a Red Flag Warning remains in effect until 8 p.m. EDT (7 p.m. CDT) for portions of southeast Alabama, the Florida Panhandle, and southwest Georgia. Northeast winds are sustained at 15 to 20 mph, with gusts reaching up to 30 mph, while relative humidity levels drop as low as 25 percent.

These conditions are primed for rapid fire growth, especially in areas like Panama City, Marianna, Dothan, and Albany, where dry vegetation can ignite quickly. Officials warn that even small sparks—from vehicles, equipment, or debris burning—can trigger fast-moving wildfires.

State forestry agencies and emergency management offices are urging residents to avoid all outdoor burning and properly secure anything that could produce sparks. Power infrastructure and rural properties face heightened risk as winds remain elevated through sunset.

Conditions are expected to ease slightly after 8 p.m., but officials caution that fire danger could return if dry air lingers into Sunday. Additional advisories remain possible.
