Gaylord, MI – Snow showers are already moving across northern Michigan this evening, creating slick stretches along and north of M-32 with overnight lows dropping as low as 21°F.
According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, light snow will taper off overnight, but mostly cloudy skies and freezing temperatures will keep road surfaces cold through the early Sunday morning hours. Drivers along I-75, US-131, and rural county roads in Otsego, Antrim, and Cheboygan counties could encounter patchy icy spots before sunrise.
Conditions improve Sunday as temperatures climb sharply, reaching between 46°F and 57°F across northern Lower Michigan, while eastern Upper Michigan stays cooler in the upper 30s to mid-40s. The brief warm-up continues into Monday, with highs nearing 66°F in some areas, helping melt any lingering snow and ice.
That break will be short-lived. Showers begin moving in late Monday, with steadier rain expected overnight into Tuesday. By Tuesday, thunderstorms could develop, with stronger cells capable of producing gusty winds and brief downpours, especially along the I-75 corridor and near Alpena.
Residents should use caution on untreated roads tonight and prepare for rapidly changing conditions early next week. Additional advisories may be issued as Tuesday’s storm system approaches.
