Walton County, FL – A Fourth of July traffic stop in Walton County led to the seizure of more than 300 grams of suspected methamphetamine, a firearm, and the arrest of a 43-year-old man after a sheriff’s K-9 alerted deputies to narcotics inside a pickup truck.

According to the Walton County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy stopped a white Chevrolet Silverado at approximately 3 p.m. Saturday, July 4, for an alleged violation of an injunction.

K-9 Aries was deployed during the stop and alerted to the odor of narcotics inside the vehicle.

Deputies said an initial search located methamphetamine residue on the truck’s center console. After the driver allegedly refused to unlock a locked toolbox mounted in the truck bed, deputies gained access and discovered a large bag containing a white crystal substance.

Authorities said the substance field-tested positive for methamphetamine and weighed just over 300 grams.

Investigators also recovered a revolver with its serial number allegedly filed off and various items of drug paraphernalia.

The driver, Westley Thompson, 43, was arrested and booked into the Walton County Jail.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Thompson faces charges including trafficking methamphetamine, removing a serial number from a firearm, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of ammunition by a convicted felon, possession of drug paraphernalia, and violation of an injunction for stalking.

The investigation remains ongoing.

As with all criminal cases, the charges are allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
