Chicago, IL – Northern Illinois residents can expect several more days of comfortable summer weather before showers and thunderstorms make a return later this week, according to the National Weather Service.
According to the National Weather Service Chicago office, seasonable temperatures and dry conditions will continue through Wednesday, although a lake breeze will keep communities along Lake Michigan noticeably cooler Tuesday afternoon.
High temperatures Tuesday are expected to range from 82 to 86 degrees inland, with readings remaining in the 70s near the lakefront. Wednesday will be slightly warmer, with highs climbing into the mid-80s, reaching as high as 88 degrees in some inland locations.
The weather pattern is expected to change beginning Thursday as moisture returns to the region.
Forecasters are calling for a 30% to 70% chance of thunderstorms Thursday, with overnight rain chances continuing into Friday. Additional showers and storms are possible Friday, especially south of Interstate 80, where rain chances remain around 30% to 60%.
The National Weather Service says some storms later this week could produce locally heavy rainfall, though details regarding timing and locations will become clearer over the coming days.
Saturday is expected to remain warm, with highs in the lower to mid-80s and a slight chance of additional thunderstorms.
Residents planning outdoor activities through midweek can expect generally favorable conditions but should monitor updated forecasts as the late-week storm system approaches.
