Chicago, IL – Cooler temperatures and a brief stretch of quieter weather are settling across northern Illinois and northwest Indiana today, but thunderstorm chances are expected to return later this week.
According to the National Weather Service Chicago, only a few isolated showers are possible Monday afternoon southeast of a line from Paxton, Illinois, to Rensselaer, Indiana. Most communities will remain dry with more seasonable temperatures over the next several days.
Monday’s highs are expected to range from 76 to 82 degrees near Lake Michigan and into the lower 80s farther inland. Overnight lows will fall into the lower 60s.
Temperatures will gradually warm through midweek, with highs reaching 80 to 85 degrees Tuesday, 84 to 87 degrees Wednesday, and 85 to 87 degrees Thursday before another round of showers and thunderstorms becomes possible late Thursday into Friday.
Friday is expected to be slightly cooler, especially near Lake Michigan, with highs ranging from 79 to 83 degrees.
The National Weather Service is also advising beachgoers to use caution along unprotected southern Lake Michigan beaches, where breaking waves of 2 to 4 feet are creating a Moderate Swim Risk on Monday. Strong currents can make swimming dangerous, particularly near piers and breakwalls.
Forecasters recommend checking the latest beach conditions before entering the water and remaining weather aware as thunderstorm chances increase toward the end of the workweek.
