Rensselaer, IN – A 40-year-old Rensselaer woman is facing multiple felony and misdemeanor charges after police say she hid beneath a bed while officers attempted to serve an outstanding arrest warrant.
According to the Rensselaer Police Department, officers went to a residence on June 26 after learning Ashley Rentschler had an outstanding warrant through Pulaski County. Officers repeatedly knocked and announced their presence but initially received no response.
Police said they later determined Rentschler was inside the home. After gaining entry, officers searched the residence and allegedly found her hiding beneath a bed in a bedroom. Authorities said she initially refused to comply with commands before being taken into custody.
During the investigation, officers reported seeing drug paraphernalia in plain view in multiple rooms of the home. Police obtained a search warrant and said the search uncovered several items consistent with drug use, including substances that allegedly tested positive for methamphetamine.
According to police, Rentschler complained of medical issues and was transported to a local hospital for medical clearance before being booked into the Jasper County Jail.
She has been charged with Level 6 felony possession of methamphetamine and Level 6 felony maintaining a common nuisance. She also faces misdemeanor charges of possession of paraphernalia and resisting law enforcement.
The case remains pending. All charges are allegations, and Rentschler is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
