Cheyenne, Wyoming – 80°F temperatures are fueling extreme fire danger through Sunday evening, as gusty winds near 40 mph combine with dry air to rapidly spread wildfires across southeast Wyoming. Near-record heat and persistent winds are creating dangerous conditions for any fire start.

According to the National Weather Service in Cheyenne, highs will climb into the 70s and low 80s through Sunday and Monday, with several locations nearing or breaking daily records. Cheyenne is expected to reach around 75°F Saturday and mid-70s Sunday, while Scottsbluff could hit the low 80s and challenge records through early next week.

The highest fire risk extends along Interstate 25 and Interstate 80, including Cheyenne, Laramie, Rawlins, and surrounding plains, where dry grasses and strong west winds can support fast-moving fires. Gusty and erratic winds may also develop near isolated afternoon showers, increasing fire spread unpredictability.

Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning and use extreme caution with any activity that could spark a fire. Rapid fire growth is possible, and containment may be difficult under these hot, windy conditions.

A cold front arriving Monday night will bring cooler temperatures into Tuesday, helping reduce fire danger slightly. However, elevated risk will persist through the weekend and early week as warm, dry, and windy conditions continue.
