North Webster, IN – Dangerous heat and oppressive humidity will continue across northern Indiana through the end of the workweek, with the National Weather Service warning that heat index values could reach 110 degrees before temperatures ease slightly for the holiday weekend.

According to the National Weather Service Northern Indiana office, the prolonged heat wave will continue through Friday, bringing afternoon temperatures in the 90s and dangerous humidity levels that will make it feel significantly hotter.

Forecasters expect peak heat index values between 100 and 110 degrees each day through Friday, while overnight lows in the 70s will provide little relief from the prolonged stretch of heat.

The forecast includes:

  • Wednesday: Highs 93-98°, lows 74-77°
  • Thursday: Highs 93-98°, lows 70-75°
  • Friday: Highs 92-97°, lows 70-73°
  • Saturday (July 4): Highs 84-93°, lows 66-70° with scattered thunderstorms possible.
  • Sunday: Highs 80-87°, lows 64-68° with additional chances for showers and thunderstorms.

While temperatures are expected to moderate over the holiday weekend, forecasters say the combination of heat and humidity through Friday poses the greatest risk for heat-related illnesses.

The National Weather Service urges residents to:

  • Avoid strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day.
  • Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing.
  • Take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning.
  • Drink plenty of water throughout the day.
  • Learn the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
  • Never leave children or pets unattended in parked vehicles.

Officials encourage residents to continue monitoring updated forecasts and any heat advisories that remain in effect through the week.
