Tulsa, Oklahoma – Residents across eastern Oklahoma should prepare for several rounds of thunderstorms through Thursday, with the potential for damaging winds, heavy rainfall and localized flooding increasing as storms repeatedly move across the same areas.
According to the National Weather Service in Tulsa, an active weather pattern will continue through Thursday, bringing multiple opportunities for thunderstorms across northeast and eastern Oklahoma as well as portions of northwest Arkansas. Forecasters caution that confidence in exact storm timing remains limited, but the overall threat for severe weather and flooding is expected to persist through the week.
The first round arrives late Tuesday evening and overnight. Areas from Oklahoma City through Tulsa and northward toward Bartlesville and Ponca City are included in a slight risk for severe weather. Damaging wind gusts approaching 80 mph are the primary concern, with hail up to quarter size also possible.
Additional thunderstorms are expected Wednesday, primarily during the morning and early afternoon hours, before another round develops overnight. While the severe threat appears somewhat lower Wednesday, repeated rainfall could begin creating localized flooding concerns, especially in low-lying and poor-drainage areas.
By Thursday, another round of thunderstorms may develop during the morning and afternoon before continuing into the overnight period. Forecasters indicate damaging winds near 60 mph and hail up to quarter size remain possible. The repeated nature of the storms raises the risk for flooding, particularly where multiple rounds track over the same communities.
Cities including Tulsa, Muskogee, Bartlesville, Pryor, McAlester and surrounding areas should remain weather aware through the week. Residents are encouraged to have multiple ways to receive warnings and avoid driving through flooded roadways if heavy rain develops.
Additional watches, warnings and flood advisories may be issued as thunderstorms evolve across eastern Oklahoma through Thursday night.
