Springfield, Illinois – Illinois residents will enjoy another stretch of unusually comfortable late-June weather before showers and thunderstorms return to the region during the second half of the week.

According to the National Weather Service in Central Illinois, clear skies and unseasonably cool conditions will continue overnight, allowing temperatures to fall into the lower and middle 50s across much of the state. The cooler air mass remains firmly in place, providing a break from the heat affecting portions of the South and East Coast.

Tuesday is expected to be the pick day of the week for outdoor plans, with abundant sunshine and afternoon temperatures reaching only the upper 70s to around 80 degrees. Communities including Springfield, Bloomington, Decatur, Champaign and Peoria are forecast to remain comfortably below typical late-June heat levels.

Changes arrive Wednesday as a weak frontal boundary moves into the region. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop during the day Wednesday and continue into Thursday. High temperatures will remain seasonable, generally ranging from the upper 70s to middle 80s despite the increase in cloud cover and rain chances.

While widespread severe weather is not currently anticipated, occasional lightning and brief downpours could affect outdoor activities and travel during periods of storm activity. Residents planning midweek events should monitor forecast updates as the timing of showers becomes clearer.
