Dallas, Texas – North Texans will face a two-part weather threat through midweek, with morning thunderstorms capable of producing heavy rain and localized flooding before dangerous afternoon heat pushes heat index values above 100 degrees across the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, storm chances will continue through Wednesday as weakening storm complexes move south from Oklahoma into North Texas. A few storms could become strong, bringing gusty winds, frequent lightning, heavy rainfall and isolated flooding, particularly during the morning hours.

The highest storm chances Tuesday and Wednesday are expected across northern sections of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, including areas near Sherman, Paris and Bowie. While storms may bring temporary relief from the heat, temperatures will quickly rebound during the afternoon. Forecast highs are expected to reach the upper 80s to upper 90s, with heat index values climbing as high as 103 to 104 degrees in parts of the region.

By late week, the storm threat diminishes while the heat intensifies. Dallas-Fort Worth is expected to reach 99 degrees Thursday, 100 degrees Friday, 101 degrees Saturday and 102 degrees Sunday. Waco, Temple and Killeen are forecast to remain in the upper 90s through the weekend.

Residents should stay hydrated, limit strenuous outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours and monitor weather alerts for any strong storms. The National Weather Service warns that triple-digit heat index values are expected daily through the upcoming weekend, increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses across North Texas.
