Medford, Ore. – Bright sunshine is taking over the Rogue Valley, but the bigger story is the rapid heat surge now unfolding across Southern Oregon. Sidewalks, parking lots, and vehicle interiors will heat up quickly as temperatures race toward the century mark by the start of the workweek.
According to the National Weather Service in Medford, temperatures will climb from the upper 80s Sunday to around 100 degrees Monday and Tuesday. Clear skies dominate the outlook, with little relief arriving through midweek. Morning readings in the 50s and lower 60s will give way to intense afternoon warmth.
The warming trend is part of a broader pattern affecting much of the Pacific Northwest and Interior West. High pressure continues building over the region, allowing temperatures to rise well above normal levels. While severe storms and flash flooding threaten parts of the Plains and Midwest, Southern Oregon remains locked into a dry and increasingly hot pattern.
Travel conditions along Interstate 5, Highway 62, and Highway 99 should remain excellent through Wednesday. However, drivers should prepare for extreme heat inside parked vehicles. Temperatures can climb dangerously fast during the afternoon.
Meteorologists are also monitoring elevated fire-weather concerns across portions of the West. Dry vegetation, low humidity, and several consecutive hot days can increase wildfire risk, especially in grassy areas surrounding Jackson County.
Plan outdoor activities during the morning when possible. Stay hydrated, check on older relatives, and never leave children or pets inside vehicles. Gardeners may notice soil drying much faster than earlier this month.
Long-range outlooks continue signaling warmer-than-average temperatures into late June across Oregon. For now, Southern Oregon appears headed into one of its hottest stretches of weather so far this season.
