Seattle, Wash. – Gray clouds are quickly losing their grip on western Washington, and a dramatic warm-up is now unfolding across the Puget Sound region. By Tuesday afternoon, Seattle could be flirting with 90 degrees, marking one of the warmest stretches of weather so far this season.
According to the National Weather Service in Seattle, skies will steadily clear through Sunday, allowing temperatures to climb from around 80 degrees Sunday afternoon to 85 degrees Monday and near 89 degrees Tuesday. The warming trend continues into Wednesday, when highs are expected to remain in the upper 80s.
The shift arrives as much of the western United States experiences a broader pattern of above-average warmth. While severe storms, flash flooding, and isolated tornado threats continue across portions of the Plains and Midwest, western Washington remains under a stable ridge of high pressure that favors sunshine and steadily rising temperatures.
Drivers along Interstate 5, Interstate 90, and State Route 520 should expect excellent travel conditions through midweek. Morning marine clouds may linger briefly, but widespread sunshine will dominate afternoons.
Residents planning outdoor activities, hiking trips, or time on Lake Washington and Puget Sound should prepare for increasing heat each day. Drink water frequently and avoid leaving children or pets in parked vehicles. The warmest conditions are expected during the afternoon and early evening hours Tuesday and Wednesday.
Meteorologists are now tracking the next potential weather change late in the week. A weak system may introduce clouds and a chance of rain by Thursday night and Friday, bringing temperatures back closer to seasonal averages near 70 degrees.
Long-range outlooks continue to favor above-normal temperatures across much of the Pacific Northwest heading into late June.
