Michigan – Darker clouds may briefly drift across northern Michigan this afternoon, but they won’t dominate the entire day. Residents across Gaylord and Otsego County are seeing a mix of sunshine and building clouds as temperatures steadily climb through the upper 60s.

The weather remains favorable for most outdoor plans, though conditions could change quickly during the second half of the day.

According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, scattered showers and thunderstorms may develop after 2 p.m. A 50% chance of thunderstorms remains in place through the afternoon and early evening. Temperatures will top out near 68 degrees, with light winds helping keep conditions comfortable outside of any storms.

Meteorologists continue monitoring a broader Midwest weather pattern capable of producing stronger storms and flash flooding farther south and west. Northern Michigan sits on the quieter edge of that activity, but a few thunderstorms remain possible locally. Severe weather is not expected, though lightning and brief downpours could interrupt outdoor events.

If you’re traveling on I-75, M-32, or U.S. 131, be prepared for sudden reductions in visibility if a shower moves through. Wet pavement could develop quickly during heavier bursts of rain. Plan extra time if heading north toward Mackinaw City or south toward Grayling later today.

The good news arrives quickly. Sunday turns mostly sunny with temperatures reaching 71 degrees, followed by another pleasant day Monday with highs near 70 degrees. Cool nights in the upper 40s will provide comfortable sleeping weather across much of northern Michigan.

Rain chances return Wednesday, when scattered showers become possible again. For now, the early-week trend favors quiet summer weather and comfortable temperatures.

Long-range outlooks suggest temperatures may trend above normal heading into the final days of June, bringing a stronger taste of summer across the Great Lakes region.
