Farley, MO – A high-speed crash in Platte County early Sunday left one teen dead and several others injured after a vehicle overturned and caught fire along a rural highway.
According to the Platte County Sheriffโs Office, the crash happened Sunday around 4:20 a.m. on MO-45 Highway near North Main Street in Farley. Investigators said a 2024 BMW M4 sedan was allegedly traveling southbound at more than 100 mph when the driver allegedly lost control, causing the vehicle to leave the roadway just south of North Main Street.
Authorities said the car overturned after exiting the roadway, came to rest on its top on the west shoulder, and then caught fire. The driver, identified as Om Patel, an 18-year-old Riverside, Missouri resident, and three other teen passengers allegedly sustained injuries ranging from minor to severe.
A fourth passenger, identified as Tessa Walker, an 18-year-old Kansas City, Missouri resident, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials said two of the passengers were juveniles, while another passenger, Nyadit Akoi, 18, of Kansas City, Missouri, was among those injured.
The Platte County Sheriffโs Office said the crash remains under investigation by its crash team. Authorities indicated that excess speed and alcohol are believed to have allegedly contributed to the crash, though final determinations are pending.
Investigators said once the reconstruction is complete, the case will be forwarded to the Platte County Prosecuting Attorneyโs Office for review and possible charges.
