Caribou, Maine – Residents across northern Maine should use the next few days to prepare for another round of wet weather as confidence grows in a potentially impactful rain event arriving late this week.
According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, rain showers will gradually diminish Monday evening, but another storm system is expected to bring heavy rain, gusty winds and localized flooding concerns from Thursday into Friday. Forecasters note that soils remain saturated from recent rainfall, increasing the risk that additional heavy rain could quickly lead to flooding issues.
The highest rain chances currently appear Thursday night into Friday, with many communities across Aroostook County, Piscataquis County and Downeast Maine showing precipitation probabilities reaching 70% to 85%. Cities including Caribou, Presque Isle, Houlton, Millinocket and Bangor could all experience periods of steady rainfall.
Forecasters also warn that isolated thunderstorms cannot be ruled out as a cold front moves through the region. Combined with saturated ground, gusty winds may increase the potential for downed trees and scattered power outages, especially in areas that receive the heaviest rain.
Drivers should remain alert for water-covered roads, reduced visibility and ponding during heavier downpours. Campers and outdoor recreation enthusiasts are encouraged to monitor forecasts closely as conditions could change rapidly.
While rainfall totals remain uncertain, the National Weather Service says confidence is increasing that another significant rain event will affect northern Maine before the weekend. Additional flood advisories or watches may be issued as the storm system approaches.
