Houston, Texas – A sharp overnight cooldown will hit Southeast Texas within hours, dropping temperatures by nearly 30 degrees and creating pockets of reduced visibility before the Saturday morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Houston-Galveston, a weak cold front will push through the region late Friday night, bringing inland lows between 55 and 62 degrees and slightly warmer readings along the coast between 60 and 64. The front is expected to pass through the Houston metro area between 11 p.m. and 3 a.m., shifting winds out of the north.
Drivers along I-10, I-45, and U.S. 59 could encounter patchy fog ahead of the front, especially in low-lying areas and near Galveston Bay, where visibility may briefly drop below one mile. Cities including Sugar Land, Katy, and The Woodlands will feel the cooler air first, with clearer conditions developing behind the front toward sunrise.
Friday daytime warmth peaks in the upper 80s inland, including College Station and Conroe, before the rapid overnight change. Coastal communities like Galveston remain slightly cooler, topping out near the low 80s.
Residents should prepare for quick temperature swings by keeping a light jacket handy and allowing extra travel time early Saturday where fog develops. Additional updates may be issued if visibility worsens overnight.
