Minneapolis, Minnesota – Residents across Minnesota and western Wisconsin should keep umbrellas nearby this week as several rounds of rain move through the region, with the most widespread chance for showers and thunderstorms expected Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service Twin Cities office, scattered rain showers will begin developing late Monday afternoon across western Minnesota before spreading eastward through the evening. A few isolated thunderstorms are also possible, though severe weather is not currently expected.

The Twin Cities metro, including Minneapolis, St. Paul, Bloomington and surrounding communities, will see highs in the upper 70s Monday before a gradual cooling trend develops through midweek. Western Wisconsin cities such as Hudson, Eau Claire and Menomonie may also experience periods of rain through the evening hours.

Tuesday will feature mostly sunny skies for much of the day before another chance of evening rain showers develops. The most active weather arrives Wednesday, when showers and thunderstorms become likely across much of Minnesota and western Wisconsin. Wet roads and reduced visibility could affect both morning and evening commutes.

Temperatures will trend cooler during the unsettled pattern, with highs ranging from the mid-60s to mid-70s through Thursday. While widespread severe weather is not highlighted at this time, occasional lightning and locally heavier rainfall may accompany stronger storms.

Residents should continue monitoring forecast updates as Wednesday’s rain event approaches.
