Lake Charles, Louisiana – A dry cold front moving through the Gulf Coast tonight will bring cooler air and set the stage for dangerous fire conditions across southwest Louisiana and southeast Texas by Saturday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Lake Charles, no rain will accompany the front, but winds will shift out of the north and increase with gusts between 25 and 35 mph. At the same time, humidity levels will drop significantly, creating ideal conditions for fires to ignite and spread quickly.

The elevated risk extends across Lake Charles, Lafayette, Beaumont, Alexandria, and surrounding parishes and counties. Open fields and dry grass near major roadways like I-10 and U.S. 171 could become hotspots for rapidly spreading flames, especially during the late morning through early evening hours Saturday.

Officials strongly discourage outdoor burning and urge residents to avoid parking vehicles on dry grass or using equipment that could create sparks. Even small ignition sources could lead to fast-moving fires under these conditions.

Temperatures will fall into the low to mid-50s overnight, with cooler highs in the 70s Saturday before warmer, more humid air returns Sunday. Rain chances begin to increase again early next week with possible afternoon storms.

Fire weather concerns remain in effect through Saturday evening, with additional advisories possible if winds or dryness intensify.
