Melbourne, Florida – Beachgoers along Florida’s Atlantic coast face an increased turbulence today as moderate rip currents develop alongside warm temperatures and building surf.

According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, a moderate rip current risk is in effect Friday for all central Florida Atlantic beaches, including Volusia County, the Space Coast, and the Treasure Coast. Surf heights between 2 and 3 feet combined with onshore winds will create conditions favorable for dangerous currents.

Early morning hazards also included patchy fog, which may have reduced visibility for drivers along A1A and nearby coastal roads. That fog is expected to clear by mid-morning, giving way to partly cloudy skies and warm conditions.

High temperatures will climb into the low 80s along the coast and mid to upper 80s inland, including areas like Melbourne and Orlando. Light winds will become onshore through the afternoon, reinforcing the rip current threat.

Officials urge swimmers to stay near lifeguards and avoid entering the water if unsure of conditions. Even experienced swimmers can be pulled away from shore.

The rip current risk will persist through the day, with additional beach hazard statements possible if surf conditions worsen.
