Little Rock, Arkansas – Strong winds and a quick temperature drop are moving across Arkansas today, with freeze conditions expected to develop in northern areas by early Saturday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, a cold front is sweeping through the state Friday, bringing north winds with gusts between 25 and 35 mph this afternoon. These winds will impact travel along I-40, I-30, and Highway 67, especially for high-profile vehicles and on open stretches.

Rain will accompany the front, but totals are expected to remain light and largely under a half inch statewide, limiting flooding concerns. The bigger impact comes overnight as colder air settles in.

By early Saturday morning, temperatures across northern Arkansas—including Fayetteville, Harrison, and Mountain View—could fall to 30 to 33 degrees, with some areas potentially dipping below freezing. Central areas like Little Rock and Searcy will stay closer to the upper 30s to near 40.

Residents in northern counties should protect sensitive plants and be prepared for a cold start Saturday. Loose outdoor items should also be secured ahead of today’s gusty winds.

Winds will ease later Saturday, but cool conditions linger as the state transitions into a gradual warming trend heading into early next week.
