Detroit, Michigan – Cold air is locking in across Michigan today, with temperatures running up to 20 degrees below normal and snow showers expected to develop by late tonight.

According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, highs Friday will only reach the mid to upper 30s across southeast Michigan, including Detroit, Ann Arbor, and Flint. Northern spots like Bad Axe and Port Huron will stay even colder, with highs in the upper 20s to near 30 degrees.

Conditions will shift again after sunset. Increasing cloud cover will lead to widely scattered snow showers overnight, with temperatures dropping into the low to mid-20s by early Saturday morning. While accumulation looks limited, brief slick spots could develop on untreated roads, especially along I-75, I-94, and I-69.

Saturday brings some relief, with partly sunny skies and highs climbing into the 40s. By Sunday, a stronger warmup pushes temperatures into the mid-50s across much of the state, improving conditions for travel and outdoor plans.

Drivers should remain alert overnight for isolated slick patches as temperatures dip below freezing.

The cold snap will be short-lived, with a steady warming trend continuing through the weekend and into early next week.
