Buffalo, New York – A surge of cold air is driving temperatures down across western New York today, with daytime highs struggling in the 30s and overnight lows dipping into the low 20s through Saturday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, well below-average temperatures will persist through Saturday as a cold air mass settles over the region. Cities including Buffalo, Jamestown, and Batavia will see highs between 30 and 35 degrees Friday, with nighttime lows falling into the low to mid-20s.
The cold stretch will be short-lived. Warmer air begins pushing back into western New York late Saturday, with temperatures rebounding into the 40s and low 50s by Sunday. By early next week, highs are expected to climb into the upper 50s and even mid-60s in some areas, including Rochester and the Finger Lakes region.
Aside from a few scattered snow showers through Friday night, conditions turn mainly dry for the weekend, improving travel across major routes like I-90 and I-190.
Residents should prepare for cold mornings through Saturday, including icy patches on untreated roads.
The warming trend continues into early next week, with increasing rain chances by Tuesday as the next system approaches.
