Chicago, IL – Illinois residents still have time to help shape the future of housing policy across the state as officials continue gathering public input for the 2027 Illinois Housing Blueprint.
According to the Illinois Housing Development Authority (IHDA), residents, community leaders and local officials are encouraged to participate by completing an online housing survey before July 31 or attending one of six remaining community listening sessions scheduled across Illinois.
The Illinois Housing Blueprint, first launched in 2020, is a statewide planning initiative conducted every three to five years to assess housing conditions, identify challenges and opportunities, and create strategies for expanding equitable and affordable housing.
IHDA officials said nearly 2,000 residents have already responded to the survey, but the agency is seeking broader participation to improve the accuracy of its statewide housing analysis.
The anonymous survey allows residents to share opinions about housing affordability, availability and community needs. Responses will be used alongside housing data and feedback collected during in-person meetings.
Upcoming listening sessions will take place in Springfield on June 16, Peoria on June 17, Effingham on June 18, Champaign on June 25, Kankakee on July 8 and Rockford on July 14. During the sessions, IHDA staff will present regional housing data, answer questions and gather feedback from attendees.
Officials say community participation is essential because the Blueprint serves as a roadmap for future housing investments, policies and development efforts throughout Illinois.
IHDA, a self-supporting state agency established in 1967, has provided more than $29 billion in financing to support the purchase, development or rehabilitation of more than 335,000 homes and apartments statewide.
Residents interested in participating can complete the survey and find additional information about the Blueprint process at ILHousingBlueprint.org. Advance registration is required for listening sessions.
