Providence, RI – The outer edge of a migrating heat dome is set to bring a stretch of mild, above-normal warmth to Rhode Island within days, along with periodic rain chances that could impact travel at times through early April.
According to the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center, Rhode Island falls within a 50 to 60 percent probability of above-normal temperatures from April 3 through April 9, paired with a 40 to 50 percent chance of above-normal precipitation. Highs in Providence, Warwick, and along the I-95 corridor are expected to reach the low to mid-70s, with occasional pushes toward the upper 70s, running several degrees above seasonal averages.
Rhode Island sits along the far northern fringe of the heat dome, where the influence of warmer air is less intense than areas farther south. This setup supports a mix of sunshine and passing systems capable of producing scattered showers and occasional thunderstorms.
Rain chances will be intermittent, but brief heavier downpours could impact major routes including I-95, Route 6, and coastal roadways, reducing visibility during peak travel times.
Residents can expect comfortable spring warmth but should stay prepared for quick weather changes and occasional wet conditions.
This pattern is expected to persist through April 3–9, with additional updates likely as the heat dome shifts and rain chances evolve.
