Gurnee, IL – A 35-year-old man is facing felony charges after police say a disturbance at a business on Grand Avenue escalated into a violent altercation involving a metal baseball bat Tuesday morning.

According to the Gurnee Police Department, officers responded around 10:55 a.m. Tuesday, May 26, to the 3700 block of Grand Avenue following reports of a disturbance involving multiple individuals.

Investigators said preliminary findings indicate a verbal dispute began between Cameron R. Scott, 35, and a business clerk. Police allege Scott entered a restricted employee area behind the counter while the argument continued.

Authorities said as the clerk attempted to retrieve a baseball bat from beneath the counter, Scott allegedly struck the employee in the head with his fist before taking possession of the bat.

Police said additional employees responded after hearing the disturbance, and Scott allegedly began striking workers with the bat. During the altercation, one male employee was reportedly struck in the head.

Employees eventually restrained Scott until officers arrived at the scene. Responding officers said they found several individuals holding Scott on the ground in the parking lot while he remained in possession of a metal baseball bat.

Three employees were transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center for evaluation and treatment of injuries. Scott was also taken to a hospital for evaluation of injuries sustained during the incident.

The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office approved two counts of aggravated battery against Scott. He was expected to appear in bond court Wednesday. Police said the investigation remains active.
