Pennsylvania – Water is already pooling over roads and creeping into low-lying neighborhoods across the Pittsburgh area, where heavy rain has pushed creeks and streams toward overflow. Drivers are encountering water-covered roads with little warning, especially near underpasses and along smaller routes.
According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, a Flood Warning remains in effect until 7:15 a.m., with 1 to 2 inches of rain already fallen across parts of western Pennsylvania, eastern Ohio, and northern West Virginia . Flooding is ongoing or imminent in areas including Allegheny, Westmoreland, and Beaver counties.
Several roads in Westmoreland County have already been reported flooded. In Allegheny County, areas like Pittsburgh, Penn Hills, McKeesport, and Monroeville are seeing rising water in creeks and poor drainage zones. Expect sudden closures, especially on secondary roads and flood-prone corridors.
Visibility remains reduced in steady rain and mist, adding another layer of danger for drivers. If you encounter water across a roadway, turn around immediately. Just a small amount of moving water can sweep a vehicle off the road.
Conditions begin to improve later this morning as steady rain tapers off. By afternoon, skies gradually clear, and temperatures reach the low 50s. A colder night follows, with lows dropping into the upper 20s, which could refreeze leftover moisture in spots.
The weekend turns calmer, with sunshine returning Saturday and highs in the mid-40s, followed by near 60°F by Sunday. Monday brings another chance of rain, signaling a return to unsettled spring patterns.
If you’re out this morning, stay alert for flooded roads and rapid changes in water levels.
