Memphis, Tennessee – Light rain will move into the Mid-South within hours Friday morning, but totals remain too low to ease dry ground conditions or significantly impact travel.
According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, a cold front will push through between 7 a.m. Friday and 7 a.m. Saturday, bringing a 20% to 60% chance of showers across West Tennessee, eastern Arkansas, and northern Mississippi. Most locations will see 0.10 inches or less, with only a 10% chance of totals reaching 0.25 inches.
The highest likelihood of measurable rain sets up north of Interstate 40, including areas near Jackson, Dyersburg, and into northeast Arkansas. In Memphis and Shelby County, scattered showers may develop by midday Friday and continue intermittently into the evening, though many neighborhoods could see little accumulation.
Road impacts should remain minimal, but brief slick spots are possible during heavier bursts, especially along I-40 and I-240 during peak travel hours. Drivers should allow extra stopping distance during passing showers.
South of I-40, including northern Mississippi communities like Southaven and Olive Branch, confidence in measurable rainfall drops off sharply, with some areas staying mostly dry.
The system exits by early Saturday morning, and no flooding or severe weather is expected. Additional updates will follow if rainfall coverage trends higher.
