Oregon weather is flipping quickly across the Portland metro this afternoon as crisp sunshine and mild spring warmth spread over the Willamette Valley. Downtown sidewalks dried rapidly after a cool sunrise while temperatures climbed toward 80 degrees under mostly sunny skies. Drivers along Interstate 5 and Interstate 84 saw clear roads and bright visibility through late morning, but wetter conditions are already building offshore.

According to the National Weather Service, Portland reaches near 80 degrees this afternoon before clouds increase tonight. Calm winds early today shift lightly southward overnight as Pacific moisture pushes toward northwest Oregon. Memorial Day turns noticeably cooler with widespread showers developing after late morning and gusts reaching 26 mph by afternoon.

Rain continues Monday night into Tuesday as a broader Pacific storm system settles across Oregon and Washington. Temperatures fall nearly 15 degrees compared to today, with highs struggling to reach the mid-60s Tuesday afternoon. Forecasters also note the colder system may bring late-season snow showers to the highest Cascade elevations by Tuesday, especially near mountain passes farther north.

Travel conditions could deteriorate quickly on wet roadways Monday afternoon, especially along Interstate 5 through Portland, Vancouver and Wilsonville. Gusty winds and heavier showers may create brief visibility drops during evening travel periods. To be fair, severe weather remains unlikely west of the Cascades, though isolated thunderstorm activity cannot be ruled out inland Tuesday afternoon.

The Pacific Northwest enters a more active spring pattern through midweek as the recent stretch of dry and unusually warm weather breaks down. Cooler air lingers through Wednesday before temperatures rebound later next week with signs of another warmer pattern developing by early June.
