Florida weather is turning hot, breezy and increasingly stormy across Miami this afternoon as Atlantic winds push humid air inland and waves pound area beaches. Palm trees swayed along Biscayne Boulevard late this morning while beach flags warned swimmers of dangerous rip currents from Miami Beach north through Broward County. Drivers along I-95 and U.S. 1 should expect bursts of heavy rain and sudden visibility drops later this week as thunderstorms become more widespread.

According to the National Weather Service, mostly sunny skies and breezy conditions will hold through much of today with temperatures climbing near 86 degrees at Miami International Airport. Winds may gust above 20 mph during the afternoon. A rip current statement remains in effect into Memorial Day evening for Atlantic beaches across South Florida, creating hazardous swimming conditions despite periods of sunshine.

Meteorologists are now tracking a more active tropical-style pattern developing by Tuesday and Wednesday. Scattered thunderstorms become more common during the afternoon and evening hours as deep moisture builds over South Florida. Some storms may produce torrential downpours, frequent lightning and localized street flooding in low-lying urban areas.

Residents and visitors heading outdoors should stay weather-aware each afternoon. Lightning can develop quickly near the coast, especially after lunchtime. Wet pavement and ponding water may slow traffic around Downtown Miami, Brickell and stretches of the Dolphin Expressway during stronger storms. Beachgoers should also remain cautious near rough surf and strong currents.

The broader Southeast remains locked in an unsettled late-spring weather setup through Memorial Day, with repeated thunderstorms stretching from Florida into the Carolinas. While widespread severe weather is not expected around Miami, isolated stronger storms could still produce gusty winds and brief flooding.

Long-range outlooks continue favoring above-normal temperatures into early June, signaling summer heat and tropical humidity are settling firmly across South Florida.
