New Hampshire weather is delivering a raw, damp start to the holiday stretch as gray clouds settle over Manchester and rain spreads across southern New Hampshire this afternoon. Wet pavement and low clouds slowed drivers along I-93 and Route 3 late this morning while cool air drifting south from Canada kept temperatures stuck near 51 degrees. Visibility remained decent at Manchester-Boston Regional Airport, but conditions still felt chilly and soaked compared to typical late-May weather.

According to the National Weather Service, showers will become steadier through the afternoon and evening, with rainfall chances climbing near 90 percent. Patchy fog may also redevelop later tonight as temperatures slide toward the middle 40s. Memorial Day stays unsettled with additional rounds of showers expected before warmer and drier air finally arrives Tuesday.

That warmup arrives fast. High temperatures jump from the 50s today into the lower 70s Memorial Day, then surge into the middle 80s by Tuesday and Wednesday across Manchester, Nashua and Concord. Meteorologists now tracking the rapid temperature swing say southern New Hampshire could experience one of its warmest stretches so far this spring by midweek.

Drivers should still use caution through Monday, especially during heavier showers. Slick roads, standing water and changing visibility could slow travel during afternoon and evening periods. Keep jackets nearby for now, but lighter clothing may replace them quickly by Tuesday afternoon as summer-like warmth pushes north into New England.

The broader Northeast remains trapped in an active spring weather setup through Memorial Day, with repeated rounds of rain stretching from Pennsylvania into Maine. Severe weather is not expected in southern New Hampshire, though isolated thunder cannot be ruled out farther south near the Massachusetts border.

Long-range outlooks continue pointing toward above-normal temperatures late next week, signaling stronger summer vibes may settle into New England heading into early June.
