Davenport, Iowa – Strong storms could develop across the Quad Cities region during the evening hours, with large hail posing the greatest threat as storms move quickly east.

According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, scattered storms are expected to form between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m., primarily impacting west-central Illinois into southeast Iowa, including Davenport, Moline, Rock Island, and Burlington. Storms will track east at around 40 mph, limiting warning time as conditions change rapidly.

Hail up to 1.25 inches in diameter is the primary concern, with isolated reports of larger hail possible if stronger cells develop. Damaging winds are a secondary threat, while the tornado risk remains low but not zero.

Areas along and south of I-80, including Macomb and Galesburg, face the highest chance of stronger storms. Additional isolated activity north of the boundary is expected to remain weaker, producing brief lightning and small hail.

Residents are urged to stay weather aware, especially during the evening commute. Have multiple ways to receive warnings and move indoors immediately if thunder is heard.

Storm activity should diminish by late evening as it shifts south, with quieter conditions expected overnight.
