Gaylord, Michigan – Slippery roads could develop across Northern Michigan within hours tonight as lingering mixed precipitation freezes on contact, creating hazardous travel conditions.
According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, precipitation will taper off this evening, but not before leaving behind icy patches—especially on untreated secondary roads and bridges. Temperatures will fall sharply overnight, dropping as low as 3°F in the eastern Upper Peninsula and into the teens across northern Lower Michigan.
By Friday, much colder air settles in, with highs only reaching the low 20s to low 30s. Scattered snow showers will develop, leading to occasional slick spots across highways including I-75 and US-131. Areas like Gaylord, Petoskey, and Alpena may see brief reductions in visibility during passing snow bands.
The cold pattern continues into Saturday with additional snow showers and highs struggling to reach the 30s and low 40s. Drivers are urged to slow down on untreated roads and watch for black ice during early morning and nighttime hours.
Conditions begin to improve Sunday as temperatures rebound into the upper 30s to upper 50s, with fewer travel impacts expected.
