Marquette, MI – Drivers across the Upper Peninsula could face slick roads within the next 12 hours as temperatures drop into the teens and single digits tonight, setting the stage for snow-covered highways by Friday midday.

According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, skies will partially clear overnight, allowing lows to fall between 9°F and 18°F inland. A weak system arrives by late Friday morning, bringing widespread light snow across the region, with accumulation generally between 2 and 4 inches by evening.

Travel impacts are expected along US-41 from Houghton to Marquette and along M-28 stretching through Munising and Newberry, where visibility could drop to around one mile during heavier bursts. In Ironwood and Watersmeet, road temperatures will remain below freezing all day Friday, increasing the risk of packed snow and icy stretches. Escanaba and Menominee may see slightly warmer conditions, but snow will still affect the afternoon commute.

Residents should limit non-essential travel Friday afternoon, keep devices charged, and allow extra braking distance on untreated roads. Another round of scattered snow showers is possible Saturday afternoon, especially east toward Sault Ste. Marie.

Light snow continues through Friday night, with additional advisories possible as temperatures remain below freezing into the weekend.
