Houston, TX – A Flood Watch remains in effect across much of southeast Texas through Monday evening as multiple rounds of heavy rain threaten to bring flash flooding to the Houston metro area and nearby Gulf Coast communities.
According to the National Weather Service in Houston/Galveston, widespread rainfall totals of 2 to 5 inches are expected along coastal counties, with inland areas likely to receive 1 to 3 inches through late Monday. Isolated locations could see significantly higher amounts during stronger storms.
Meteorologists warned that rainfall rates may peak between 3 and 4 inches per hour in the heaviest downpours, increasing the risk of rapid street flooding, overwhelmed drainage systems, and rising water levels along creeks and bayous.
The Flood Watch includes Houston, Galveston, Pasadena, Baytown, Sugar Land, Pearland, League City, Conroe, The Woodlands, Liberty, Bay City, Angleton, and surrounding communities. Coastal areas including Galveston Island, Bolivar Peninsula, and parts of Brazoria and Matagorda counties are also under the alert.
Forecasters said flooding may develop in low-lying areas, poor drainage locations, urban streets, and flood-prone neighborhoods, especially during repeated rounds of thunderstorms this weekend into Monday.
Drivers are urged to avoid flooded roadways and monitor changing conditions closely. Additional Flood Warnings could be issued with little notice if storms intensify or begin training over the same locations.
Residents are encouraged to stay weather aware through the holiday weekend and prepare for possible travel disruptions and localized flooding.
